Olathe for the weekend

Don and Barbara are coming to Olathe for the weekend to catch up on mail, family events and lots of fun.

The news from Lincoln:
Don is working hard on being as independent as possible. His walking therapy will include treadmill and water therapy in the coming days. They are looking into communication technology to help him share what he is thinking and needs.

He much enjoyed the bowling and target shooting. They said he was a bit nervous about the shooting but just needs practice. I think Dale has been nominated for that.

Don is looking forward to family time and playing games while home for the weekend.
It appears that the therapy in Lincoln will go till mid October. Keep up the good work Don and Barbara. We will be very glad to have you home but know that what you are doing is making a huge difference.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Weekend in Lincoln

Well, I have never been to Lincoln but it sounds like it might be a quiet, slower paced town. Don and Barbara got a little adventurous this weekend. They went to Backyard burgers and Don walked from the car to the restaurant - WOWOWOW!! That was hard work I am sure and also quite exciting. After that they went to WalMart and Barbara thought Don might enjoy a motorized cart. Needless to say he was excited to try it out and off he went on this own while Barbara shopped. That was - I think - his first time on his own since the stroke. Barbara said she was shopping and looked around and here he came - driving his cart with a HUGE smile on his face. I bet that is an outing that will be repeated.
The group rehab outing this week was bowling and next week is target shooting. STAY AWAY FROM LINCOLN!! Weekends are rather slow since there is no rehab, but it gives Don and Barbara a chance to try things on their own and sounds like they are having some fun along the way.

Obviously, Don is continuing to improve - Thanks be to God!

GOOD NEWS!!!

A message from Barbara:

We received a letter today from the Madonna benevolence fund is providing us $1250 for housing charges AND $9400 for outpatient and physicians services. The therapy sessions cost from $500 to $700 a day so that sill give us 13 to eighteen additional therapy sessions..God bless the Catholics!

This means we will probably have therapy till October!! This is a huge answer to prayer.
Thanks to all for praying with us. Also, our condolences to the family of Dr. Metz-he and Don had a special relationship.

Visit to Olathe

Don and Barbara made a quick visit to Olathe this weekend. Don was all over town. Here is few places you might have had a Don siting. Austin's for lunch , Cabella's, Britney's house for endless football, Church with Britney and her family, and riding all over town. Barbara was busy taking care of business matters and cleaning gutters - you heard me - cleaning gutters. She got the front done, but if anyone has time the sides and back need to be done.

Two things to pray about. They are petitioning for extended physical therapy time and a special computer for Don to use.

Letters should soon be going out to friends of MNU, friends of the auction and the class of 1972 and 1975 about how to help with the catastrophic medical bills and rehab. Please tell anyone you know who may not have heard about Don's stroke.

Don and Barbara will be coming home again this weekend for a very short visit. Don goes back to Lincoln for therapy on Monday. When I talked to Barbara today, Don was in a cooking class - making Nachos!! YUM!

Thanks to those who have already made contributions. They will be put to good use as Don has many medications and those Dr.'s bills just keep on coming.

Many have requested information regarding an account to which payments can be made for the purpose of assisting Don and Barbara with expenses related to Don’s stroke. An account has been established with Security Savings Bank of Olathe, Kansas. The account is “Miracle 4 Don.” When writing a check it can be paid to the order of Miracle 4 Don. Those checks can be sent to:

Miracle 4 Don
C/O Security Savings Bank
Attention: Lora Keim
15670 West 135th Street
Olathe, KS 66062

Due to provisions of the Internal Revenue Code contributions to the account are not tax deductible by the donor. After consultation with appropriate counsel it was recognized that this was the best way to handle contributions from those who had expressed a desire to help. If you wish your donation to remain anonymous, please indicate such at the time you make the contribution.

Many have already given much by way of meals, cards, cash, checks, time, and services. Don and Barbara have been deeply moved by these continuing expressions of love. Without the many prayers, the miracles would not be happening. We all recognize our expressions of love are both action and prayer. Thank you for both!

God has been teaching all of us many things as we have shared this journey. There are more lessons of His grace and power yet to come. Please stay with us as we share the journey.
